Slalom waterskiing on Ruby Lake with a dramatic spray of water

Ski With Jon

Waterskiing on Ruby Lake, BC

Come ski with me!

I'm Jon — I recently moved to Halfmoon Bay, BC, and I'm out on Ruby Lake 3–4 times a week from April to October. I'm always looking for fellow skiers or anyone who wants to learn.

Whether you've never been on skis before or you're running the slalom course, you're welcome on the boat. I love teaching beginners (kids and adults alike) and I'm always up for pulling experienced skiers who are working on their buoy count.

The Boat

1998 Ski Nautique with a heater, shower, Perfect Pass Stargazer (speed control), and a Z-box. It's a purpose-built slalom boat that throws a flat, small wake. Perfect for any skill level.

The Skiing

My focus is slalom skiing — one ski, carving turns, lots of spray. I spend most of my time in the slalom course but if you just want to get up on two skis and cruise the lake, that's great too.

The Location

Ruby Lake on the Sunshine Coast, just north of Halfmoon Bay, BC. Calm, warm water surrounded by forest and mountains. It's as good as lake skiing gets.

The Season

April through October, typically early mornings or evenings when the water is glass. I'm flexible on timing, just reach out and we'll find a day that works.

Want to ski?

Drop me a line and we'll get you on the water. No experience needed, just bring a towel and a good attitude.

Questions & Answers

Do I need any experience?

Not at all. I've taught plenty of first-timers, kids and adults alike. We'll start slow and I'll walk you through everything before you hit the water.

What should I bring?

Just a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and water. I have skis, life jackets, and a barefoot boom. The boat has a heater and hot-water shower if it's a cool day.

Can I bring a friend or parent?

You bet! 2 to 3 people is ideal, not including me.

Is this your business?

Nope, just a passion! I really love waterskiing and I hope to find others that feel the same. One day, maybe we can create a waterski club here on the coast.
